ServiceNow UTAH: CMDB New Features

Configuration Management Database(CMDB)

The CMDB is a repository, it acts as a data warehouse information technology installation. It holds data related to the collection of Its assets and descriptive relationships between such assets.

CMDB Baseline: The CMDB baseline will help you understand and control the changes to make a configuration item. These baselines act as a snapshot of configuration items.

Note: CMDB was enhanced and updated in the Utah release.

CMDB Highlights for the Utah Release

  • The CMDB 360 feature now includes the Multisource CMDB feature with other added functionality in CMDB Workspace such as quick access to managing attestation tasks, the CMDB 360 dashboard, and key management aggregations and tools.
  • Use some CMDB features with non-CMDB tables. Apply Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) identification and reconciliation processes to supported non-CMDB tables. Use identification simulation and query CMDB 360 data for non-CMDB tables.
  • You no longer need to set up the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) environment to use the CMDB Data Manager. However, you must ensure that there is an active life-cycle rule that corresponds to each target class in a Retire, Archive, or Delete policy. You can customize predefined life-cycle rules to reflect on processes in your organization.

New in the Utah Release

  • Configure IRE to Apply Filter Conditions Before or After Attribute Value Changes: Determine whether the IRE applies filter conditions in a reconciliation rule before or after attribute values change by setting glide.identification_engine.enable_reconciliation_filter_before_update system property. To have the IRE apply the filter conditions before attribute values change, you would set this property to true.
  • Quick Start for tests Configuration Management Database: After upgrades and deployments of new applications or integrations, run quick start tests to verify that CMDB works as expected. If you customized CMDB, copy the quick start tests and configure them for your customizations.

Changed in Utah Release

  • The Multisource CMDB feature is now part of the CMDB 360 feature: The Multisource CMDB feature that tracks the activities and history of data sources as they insert, and update Cl attributes is now included in the CMDB 360 feature. CMDB 360 provides all the functionality and processes of Multisource CMDB plus additional capabilities such as an analytics dashboard and new query functionality. You can access all of the CMDB 360 capabilities.

Note: Some references in the user interface in the CMDB Workspace, Now Platform navigation items, and documentation still contain the string “Multisource.” These occurrences should be considered to refer to the CMDB 360 feature.

Deprecations

  • The agent workspace for configuration management database (CMDB)is being deprecated. The CMDB agent workspace plugin is now accessible only to ServiceNow employees.
  • Use the CMDB  workspace store app for quick access to extensive work with the CMDB. The CMDB Workspace enables you to search and explore the CMDB, examine health, CMDB 360 data, and recent activity, and to access various CMDB dashboards and tools to support tasks in your organization.

Activation Information: CMDB is a Now Platform feature that is active by default with the Configuration Management (CMDB) (com.snc.cmdb) plugin.
